David Scott
September 26, 1942 ~ March 24, 2009

Farewell to 'The Fell's Point Gazette'; David E. Scott 1942 - 2009
'The Fell's Point Gazette' published its final dispatch on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 when David E. Scott left this world after battling cancer for the last year. The local "man with the news" passed in a hospital in Ecuador on his way back to the U.S. from his annual winter trip to visit friends in Chile. A man who loved both travel and Fell's Point, it was somehow fitting that his last week was spent on the ocean cruising toward home.
David was born in St. Louis and after attending the University of Missouri, he found his way to Baltimore in the l960's. He began a banking career with the old Baltimore based, Equitable Trust Company. Starting as a clerk he became a manager of several of the Equitable branches, and helped to open the Mechanic Building branch with its eye-catching Rauschenberg mural. David lived in Bolton Hill until the mid 1970s when he moved to Aliceanna St. in Fell's Point.
A charming man with an outgoing personality, an inquiring mind and a true talent for entertaining, he really did seem, as one friend said, "to know everyone in Baltimore." Turkey Joe's on Broadway was the first of several bars that became David's 'local', his other living room. He would stop in to have a drink, meet and greet old friends, make new ones, and gather and disperse the news of the neighborhood. Hence the name that he gave himself, 'The Fell's Point Gazette'. David is most remembered for the stories he told about others rather than the stories that others told about him. He was a good friend, generous with his time to both individuals and organizations. When he first moved to Baltimore, he shared his rich baritone in the choir of Corpus Christi Church. He volunteered as props manager for The Baltimore Opera, and helped the Fell's Point Preservation Society create its booth for the first City Fair at what would later become Harbor Place. As a member of the Fell's Point Yacht Club he took on the role of treasurer for the Baltimore Parade of Lighted Boats. He also lent his time and talents to HERO. When faced with major changes in the banking industry he made an inspiring move for a middle aged man and left banking for nursing where he spent the next 18 years of his career as an RN at the Johns Hopkins Hospital.
It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of a dear, dear friend.
David will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Our deepest sympathy goes out to David's family.

In memory of Frederick Lee O'Leary
January 28, 1954 - December 15, 2002
Fred was a self-taught artist who could take a piece of wood and carve it into an amazing piece of artwork. His shop was located next door to The Cat's Eye Pub for many years. Anyone who has visited The Cat's Eye has seen the marvelous carving made by Fred of The Cat's Eye logo. The Cat's Eye family will truly miss this talented artist and friend.
Fred had a great love for animals and nature, which reflected in his carvings and life. His love for life was his inspiration for all his work.

George Harrison
1943 - 2001
Who ever thought we would see this day? |
 |
|
''All Things Must Pass''
All things must pass
All things must pass away
All things must pass
None of life's strings can last
So, I must be on my way
Face another day
The darkness only stays the night-time
In the morning it would fade away
Daylight is good at arriving at the right time
It's not always gonna be this grey
All things must pass
All things must pass away
All things must pass
All things must pass away
|
"He left this world as he lived in it, conscious of God, fearless of death, and at peace, surrounded by family and friends," the Harrison family said in a statement. "He often said, 'Everything else can wait but the search for God cannot wait, and love one another.'"
''If Not for You''
If not for you, my sky would fall
Rain would gather, too
Without your love I'd be nowhere at all
I'd be lost, if not for you"
"If not for you
The winter would hold no spring
Couldn't hear a robin sing
I just wouldn't have a clue, if not for you"
(Thanks Brian) |

"Straw hat, winning smile, tight jeans, cowboy boots,
And symbolic fire hydrant -- the "Big Dog" salute.
Dirty dancing, using the microphone stand,
Wednesday nights at the Cat's Eye were ruled by the Big Dog Band.
You often joked about how many guys told you they got laid,
On the nights the Big Dog Band played.
Laughing and joking on stage with Ron;
We never realized how much we'd miss you now that you're gone.
Little Wing, and all the songs you wrote, that I loved to hear you sing,
I can't listen to anymore...IS IT Crazy?
Memories of you haunt my dreams,
But I can only wander with you in my sleep,
And carry your voice in my heart, way down deep.
Until we meet, again.
Your biggest fan"
